Thanks to the prolific presence of noble rot (Botrytis Fungus) in our nearly 40-year-old Gewurztraminer vineyard, we decided to make a Gewurztraminer Beerenauslese. This involves a great deal of hands-on work, as shown here with our helpers separating the dried grapes with high concentrations of sweetness from the normal grapes in the clusters.

Just as was done 100 years ago, the hand-picked grapes are carried out of the vineyards in the protecting “Logel” back-carrier.
Retired field-manager Karl-Heinz Bender, who has been at Fitz-Ritter for more than 40 years, is still always present fort he Great Growth harvest. He gladly shares his experience with the Apprentices training to become Vintners.
