We began our 2005 harvest on September 14th with our Sauvignon Balnc in the Dürkheimer Abtsfronhof vineyard. This relatively early start (about 10 days earlier than an average year) is thanks to a very sunny late summer wich boosted the ripening process of our grapes.

Our field manager Christian Klein (engineer of viniculture and oenology, FH Geisenheim) has been managing our vineyards since last fall. He looks forward to promising qualities of the 2005 vintage, especially for the pinot varieties.
2005 is Christian Klein's first Fitz-Ritter harvest for which he has layed out the tracks for valuable, healty grapes by implementing quality improving techniques such as halving grapes, loosening the soil and removing leaves in the grape area of the vines.

The grapes of our Grosses Gewächs Riesling on the Michelsberg have an unusually aromatic taste this year. The rasin-like, dried up grapes will contribute to the ripe, fruity taste of this exceptional wine. |
